We all know the present is the main event but putting in that last bit of effort makes all the difference.
If you’re looking for easy yet elegant way to present gifts to your friends and loved ones, this guide should have you covered.
The First Step
Having a brightly patterned wrapping paper can look really nice, provided you had the right colour ribbon, tag and other accessories to match it, which can take time and money. The key to simple gift wrapping is plain wrapping paper, or even better, brown craft paper (or kraft paper).
Having this will make choosing the further accoutrement of the present much simpler and overall makes the present look neat, especially if there are multiple.
Secondly, the String
Like the wrapping, the binding of the box also needs to be simple. Plain, especially, black ribbons work well but the safe go to is usually twine or brown string. Patterned string would work as, because the string is so thin, the pattern wouldn’t be overly complicated.
Tying a bow on top with the string usually works just fine to secure the gift but having a flat top and taping the string on the underneath of the present also works.
Thirdly, the tags
There are many ways to create nice tags for a present, the best this that would work with this technique would be, again, a simple craft paper tag. Even a neat hand written message on the top or side would look nice.
If there are multiple presents or an accompanying card, a matching gift bag with it’s own tag would work just as well.
Bring Fourth the Accessories
This is purely optional but adding a small something to the gifts can make all the difference. For example buying a bunch of small fake flowers and slipping one or two underneath the string on top.
Another favourite of mine, though this take a but more time, is making biscuits to give with the present. You want to chose ones that won’t crumble.
When you’re cutting them out, make a small hole in them somewhere, so that when they’re baked you can thread some string through the hole and attach them to the top of the gift. It might be worth doing maybe day before or day of giving the gift.
Additional Tips
- Be wary of the light and darks – Adding a bit of simple contrast to the wrapping is usually a good ideas. For example, if you have black wrapping paper, you may want to add a more mid-tone brown string or if you had brown craft wrapping paper, a black or white string or ribbon would go quite well
- Present boxes – If you don’t like the ideas of wrapping paper, you could always go for a traditional gift box, simple secure the lid and no wrapping required.
- Recycling – Things like re-using wrapping paper you’ve received on gifts or buying eco friendly wrapping materials are small things that could go a long way.
